I like to listen to music while i cook. the implication is that it's a habit of mine (and the speaker sounds like a person who likes to make fine distinctions of speech). You could say would you listen to me for a minute? if you have started speaking and the other person doesn't seem to be.
Listen is intransitive and it always has to be followed by either to or for: Lis·tened, lis·ten·ing, lis·tens to make an effort to hear something: Can you listen to me? Or would you like to listen to some music?
